Chris Flanagan is an installation/new media artist from Adelaide and a co-founder of the artist run Downtown Art Space.
A graduate of the South
Australian School of Art, he has exhibited across Australia in group and
solo exhibitions in spaces such as Perth’s Bread Box, Melbourne’s West
Space, and later this year, at Sydney’s Gallery Wren. After living in Canada
for several months, Chris curated an exhibition of emerging artists from
Toronto, Canada at Downtown, and last year curated an exhibition of
electronic musicians from Adelaide, inviting them to compose new scores for
found footage. Later this year he will return to Toronto for an
international residency program on the Toronto Island.
His installation practice is as aesthetic as it is conceptual, based around
sculptural making and often incorporating sound and video. His reference
points include urban myths, schlock horror and his enormous record
collection.
